Confirmation

What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is the sacrament that completes Baptism, strengthening the gifts of the Holy Spirit within us and empowering us to live as bold, faithful witnesses of Christ. It deepens our relationship with God and unites us more fully with the Church. Through the anointing with sacred chrism and the laying on of hands, the confirmed are sealed with the Holy Spirit and sent forth to live the Gospel.

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses.”

Acts 1:8

OVERVIEW

Confirmation: Sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit

Confirmation is a powerful step in your child’s faith journey—strengthening the grace of Baptism and sealing them with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Enrollment in the Confirmation program includes participation in ongoing faith formation, a Confirmation retreat, sponsor involvement, service opportunities, and attendance at scheduled parent meetings and liturgical celebrations. Parents and sponsors are essential in guiding and supporting candidates as they grow in faith, responsibility, and discipleship.

We are honored to walk alongside your family as your child prepares to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church.

For more information or to begin the enrollment process, please contact the Religious Education Office.

NEXT STEPS

Two-Year Confirmation Preparation: Level 1 & Level 2

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the final step in full initiation into the Catholic Church. At St. Catherine's, preparation for Confirmation is a two-year journey, typically beginning in Grade 7 and concluding in Grade 8.

  • Level 1 (Grade 7):

Students grow in understanding the basics of the Catholic faith, explore Scripture, the life of Jesus, and the meaning of discipleship. This foundational year helps them build a personal relationship with Christ and prepares them for the sacramental journey ahead.

  • Level 2 (Grade 8):

Students dive deeper into the role of the Holy Spirit, the meaning of the sacraments, and living out their faith as fully initiated Catholics. Candidates receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the spring.

If your son or daughter is in high school (Grades 9–12) and has not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation, we offer a separate preparation class designed specifically for older students. This class meets them where they are in their faith journey and provides age-appropriate formation, reflection, and support as they prepare to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

To begin the process or learn more, contact the Religious Education Office.

We are here to walk with your family on this sacred journey of faith formation.

Preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation completes a young person’s initiation into the Catholic Church, sealing them with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and strengthening them to live as faithful disciples of Christ. It is a powerful moment of grace and mission—deepening one’s relationship with God and affirming their call to witness the Gospel.

At St. Catherine of Siena Church, Confirmation preparation is a two-year process, typically beginning in 7th grade and concluding with the reception of the sacrament in 8th grade. Preparation includes:

  • Active participation in faith formation classes
  • Regular attendance at Sunday Mass
  • A Confirmation retreat experience
  • Service opportunities and parish involvement
  • Choosing a sponsor and a Confirmation saint
  • Attending scheduled parent and sponsor meetings

SPONSORSHIP

Letter of Eligibility

To Serve as a Confirmation Sponsor

To serve as a confirmation sponsor is a meaningful role in the life of a young Catholic.

A sponsor stands as a witness to the faith, guiding the candidate through prayer, encouragement and example.

Chosen for their active Catholic life, sponsors help the candidate grow in their relationship with Christ and take their place as a fully initiated member of the Church. It is a commitment of presence, prayer and ongoing spiritual support.
