2018 Guadalupe Torches

Traveling Torches

The traveling torch tradition began more than a half a century ago to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of all the Americas. The torchlight processes with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe who is the original “Light” carrier as it was through her womb that Light was brought into the world.

Traveling Torches in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be traveling throughout the Diocese from late October until December. View the full schedule of churches this torch will visit.   The purpose of these torches is to encourage devotion and prayers to Our Lady  Guadalupe Torch of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas. On the morning of Sunday, November 25, our parish will be receiving the torch and presenting it to the parish community at the 11:30 am Mass. The Diocese will be bringing costumed dancers to St. Catherine’s as part of the ceremony of receiving the torch and adding our banner to it so be sure to get to mass early that day. The torch will remain in the parish until Saturday, December 1 when our Knights of Columbus members will continue its travels to St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton, for a special mass with our Bishop, David O’Connell at 12 noon. During the time the torch is in the parish, all are welcome to attend devotions and prayer services with the torch. A basket will be provided for the collection of petitions. Saturday, December 1 – Pilgrimage to St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, Trenton

You may park your car at any of the three churches or at the cathedral. Shuttle buses will run between the four locations from 6:30 am to 4:30 pm. There will be a live stream screen at the cathedral, so you can watch the procession and join in the prayers and songs offsite if you don’t wish to participate in the procession.
