Simbang Gabi - 2013
The "Simbang Gabi," literally translated as "evening Mass," is a Filipino tradition of nine (9) Masses before Christmas. This Filipino practice dates back to the 17th century when farmers and fishermen celebrated early dawn Masses, so they could receive God's blessing before going to work. Through the years, Filipinos all over the world have adopted this tradition as a spiritual preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ on Christmas day. St Catherine of Siena will host the Simbang-Gabi on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 by praying the Rosary in the Church at 7:00 pm followed by Mass at 7:30 pm. Refreshments will be served after the Mass. Everyone is invited to participate in this wonderful, spiritual, Advent tradition!
Below is the full schedule of Masses for the 2013 Simbang Gabi. The Filipino*American Catholic community of Monmouth county invites you to a Simbang Gabi, a Filipino Tradition of nine day Masses, in preparation for the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
