The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on Sundays at 12:30 p.m. Arrangements must be made in advance. St. Catherine’s holds a Baptism Preparation class at 7:30 P.M. on the third Wednesday of each month. Attendance is mandatory for parents. Sponsors (godparents) also are encouraged to attend. Please call to schedule a date for a class ... ideally, prior to the birth of the baby. For more information, contact Baptism Coordinator, Deacon Joseph Prioli. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered every Saturday, from 3:30 - 4:00pm, or by appointment, if necessary. First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion involve a two-year preparation process, beginning in the 2nd Grade with these two Sacraments being administered during the Spring of 3rd Grade. Please contact our Religious Education Department for further information. Holy Communion is distributed under 'both kinds' (Host and Cup) at most weekend Masses. For those suffering Celiac Sprue, a very low gluten host (37 micrograms) is available at all weekend Masses, by notifying the Celebrant before Mass begins. Further information can be found at these links: USCCB, or Benedictine Sisters, or Gluten-Free Living Magazine. The Sacrament of Confirmation involves a two-year preparation process where students prepare during the 6th and 7th Grade, and receive this Sacrament during the Fall of their 8th Grade. Please contact our Religious Education Department for further information. Arrangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony must be made at least one (1) year prior to the wedding date – BEFORE completing any social arrangements. Couples are required to attend Pre-Cana classes to assist them in preparing for the Sacrament. Catholics who have been away from the Church and the Sacraments will need to re-establish their Church and Sacramental life as a prerequisite for marriage.
Weddings are celebrated only for registered members of St. Catherine of Siena Parish. This practice is maintained in order to honor the choice of time and date made by our own Parish family members. We are unable to accommodate Sunday Weddings. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available as needed, by calling the Parish Office: 732-938-5375 Option 1.
Parish Sponsorship Policy - In accordance with Canon Law, to be a sponsor (godparent) for Baptism or Confirmation, a person must have received all Sacraments through Confirmation; be at least 16 years of age; if married, must be married in the Catholic Church; and attend Mass regularly. At St. Catherine’s, in order for the Parish Office to provide a Sponsor Certificate, one must be a registered, actively participating parishioner for a minimum of six (6) months. Parish records must indicate that you are attending Mass and supporting the Parish ... this can best be shown through the use of your Offertory Envelopes. If you do not meet these requirements, requests for Sponsor Certificates cannot be met. One month’s notice is required when requesting a Sponsor Certificate. (View Sponsor Certificate)
